道 Dō

The way of the bowl.

Dō — 道 — is a Japanese word for path, or way. It appears in the names of practices that go deeper than skill: Chado, the way of tea. Kendo, the way of the sword. Aikido, the way of harmony.

The insight at the heart of Dō is simple, and radical: the process is not a means to an end. The process is the point. You are not preparing matcha to get to the drinking. You are preparing matcha to practice presence. And that practice is what changes you.

Mat.Cha Dō carries this philosophy forward — not as tradition to be preserved, but as wisdom to be lived.

Your cup is your practice. Your practice is your way.

Three teas, one practice

  • Sift

2-3 grams of matcha through a fine sieve to remove clumps.

  • Pour

Add 70 to 80ml of water just off the boil, around 80 degrees Celsius.

  • Whisk

Whisk in brisk W-shaped strokes with a bamboo chasen until frothy.

  • Sip

Add ice and 80 to 100ml of milk of your choice. You are ready to sip your pause.

  • Slow release caffeine

Energy that arrives gently and stays, with no spike and no crash.

  • L-theanine for calm clarity

Alert without anxious. Focused without edgy.

  • Designed for taste and function

First harvest leaf, chosen so it tastes as good as it works.

  • A ritual that fits into real life

Eighty seconds, once a day. That is the whole practice.

Serving matcha intentfully, at scale

We partner with cafes, wellness spaces, hotels and specialty restaurants that believe matcha deserves to be served intentfully. We do not work with every space that asks. We work with spaces that care.
